Can't emphasize this enough re: running shoes. I can tell you from experience that relying on the US military to provide you with a random set of go-fasters is a sure way to end up with knee/ankle/foot problems. As others have mentioned, you could probably (not recommended) show up in your desired under-garments with your shoes tied around your neck and you would be good to go.

This is what MIDN Uniform Regs says:

Athletic shoes will be conservative in appearance.

So, there is some discretion on what is conservative. But by definition, neon colors are not conservative. They are designed to be visible. In the Fleet, people don't really care about color as long as the shoes support the exercise you are doing. Bright red Converse are fine for command PT in the weight room, but not so much if you are doing a unit run around base.
 
Save the recognizable foot gear for PPW PT. " Hi Mom Hi Dad" and then the thundering herd goes by. Hard to spot but can be done and some good pictures when they are standing still or exercising :)
 
My DS is a current plebe and he brought two pairs of HOKA running sneakers with him, one of which was bright yellow and he wore them all plebe summer. I just asked him if the detailers gave him a hard time and he said no. And yes it did make it much easier to find my Where's Waldo in all the pics!

Yes, whatever brand/color of running shoes is best for your feet. (Just no inappropriate writing, imagery, etc on them.) If you can, get professionally fitted and let them know you will be running daily and chopping on hard surfaces (asphalt, concrete, tile) and want to avoid shin splints. You are issued Brooks Ghosts. It is helpful having multiples because they will often get wet.

Many plebes wear the gray Brooks with their whiteworks for daily evolutions to instruction, meals, etc and save their personal running shoes for PEP, sports period, etc.
 
What is the situation with boots in the Navy? Do you show up with your own? I have been hearing mixed things.

You are issued boots on I-Day. Some mids purchase their own (lighter, better fit) once the academic year starts, but you can decide that later.
