I just don't get why people need to post certain things...

.
Should I sign up for a FB account? …. Is it safe now?
.

I don’t know how to sign up for an actual account, but as far as “safe” goes it’s fine. Just don’t post anything.
Oh, and as previously mentioned, there are MANY pictures posted of Cadets/Mids on there both from the Academy as well as from parents on site. This is especially great Plebe summer. You can spend hours Waldo hunting looking for your Plebe!

There is always a group for you own class. Search USNA BLB (and then you class). Personally I like this one as it is specific to DS’s class and his classmates (and therefore parents). You will find the others through your class page. They have different feels/cultures so what you may deem “the best” may not match my “best”. I also found joining them all to be overwhelming. So join, check them out, and decide whether to stay or not. USNA Mid Moms and Dads is another popular one. That will have info from all classes, as well as beyond (as parents who’s Mids have graduated stay...so think info about post graduation as well).

It’s really a personal choice as to what one prefers.

What are the names of the best groups?
Admissions should help you get on their official page. Other unofficial groups can be found through your States Academy parent support group. Those would be your best resources.
Beyond that, it’s a deep dark forest that I’ve seen people go into and never come back out....

...case in point: a parent posted a coupon for receiving a free official USNA portrait (which we weren’t ordering Bc we already have our own, and the studio that took the official mid portraits is way overpriced, imo), a $79 savings. So these are the kinds of things that are shared on parents that are valuable to me.

I have only posted once or twice on my sons class page- but I for one have loved the FB page and all the info I have learned from it. Sure there are some complainers or some who post too much for my liking but remember. . . . everyone is in this because we love our children. Just relax and don't let it bother you so much. You will learn from the page and feel connected in a small way. Which is nice for me since I don't get to just fly in to see my son whenever I want. The pictures posted are wonderful- they bring a smile to my face when I see them and know my son is in such a beautiful place.

I’ve made many great friends on the parents fb pages through out the years. Most of the time it’s fun loving, but some are sad and some angry. Lots of great information as well. We all have a common bond and that’s USNA. I wouldn’t change it for the world! Love my Navy family [emoji631][emoji173]️[emoji631]
