I need to stop checking portal and just be patient.

Man it's just getting so stressful, every day I've looked at my portal it's just been the same things, and when I see nothing new I just release a sigh. I really just want to get through the college admissions process and get it over with.

Feel free to hang out in The Waiting Room in the USNA Forum, if you haven’t already visited. Share the misery, share the fun.

I check it at least 3 times per day..even though it doesn’t change throughout the day. I just check out of anxiety and anticipation.

Oh, I don't know. For me it's something of a metaphor for actual military life. We invented the phrase "hurry up and wait." As an enlisted USAF Security Policeman (yes, that long ago) we were constantly inventing new and better ways to entertain ourselves during long periods of boredom.

The standing joke was... Take an AF cop, strip him naked and lock him alone in a small, empty room with just two steel marbles for company. Come back in an hour and he'll have lost one and broken the other.

One thing I think that can help, is to resist the urge to check. And focus on your plan B. Buy a sweatshirt. Wear it proudly. Pick your dorm. Attend an admitted student event (if they are being held...probably not currently), look a your dorm online and think about deocrating it. Even go shopping for your dorm (but keep receipts, just in case!!). Get excited about plan B...or some other fantastic hobby.

Been through this now 3 times with my 3 kids. Be present in your current life. It’s the end of a fantastic journey of your whole K-12 life!! You won’t regret celebrating your last, last semester everrrr of high school.

(Even if you miss the portal update the minute it happens, it’ll still be there tomorrow. Or next week)

HANG IN THERE

I feel for all candidates (and parents) anxiously waiting especially knowing the demanding process that each went through to get to this point. My DS is a junior so just starting the process to pursue his dream since he was a small child so not sure how we are going to handle the year that is ahead. (I know he is lurking here reading this.)

How can we not be impressed when reading the accomplishments of the kids out here? You are all very talented and will do great things wherever you end up. Hang in there!

The best advice that I got from my USAFA Admissions Advisor is... STOP CHECKING YOUR PORTAL. You'll stress yourself out way too much and besides, you'll get a call from your senator's office or whoever gave you a nomination before anything on your portal changes.
Just take a deep breath and know that whatever happens, happens. And if you do get accepted, you'll be greeted with a portal with millions of other things to complete! 😁 Your application is complete, and you'll know within the next month. Take it easy.

We used to tell something similar about nurses, I was a Biomed tech. Send them into an empty room with 3 steel balls, 1 will be missing, 1 will be broken, and the last one will have a note on it that says broken, but nothing would be wrong with it.
