Ideal time to send in AROTC scholarship app?

Wow, very good information, thank you ALOT.

now as for schools this is what i plan on putting so far (im a WV resident)

1. West Virginia University (my brother goes here, it would save my mom alot of trouble and work if i went here too)
2. Marshall University
3. Univeristy of Maryland
4. Georgetown University
5. University of Virginia

West Virginia University, excellent ROTC detachment, and the Mountaineers have one of the best marksmanship teams in the country. Tried to talk my son into visiting there, no luck. What major are you planning on?

One thing to keep in mind-if you're starting to SERIOUSLY consider an out of state public school or private school (the more expensive options), I would move those up on your schools of choice. It is VERY tough to move a scholarship from an in state public to either of the other 2 than it is to go the other way around. When the Army gives you that scholarship, they have set aside that money for YOU. When you go back to them in April asking for more $$ because you actually want to go to Georgetown over WVU, you've now REALLY messed up their budgeting. However, if they have set aside $33,000/ year for 4 years for you at Georgetown and you come back wanting WVU, that does not cut into their budget. To the contrary, you just saved the Army money.

See what I'm getting at here? It can be easy to move scholarships, but more often, it's hard because of the SCHOOLS that kids want to make the changes with.

Not really.

The problem is that the releasing officer is loosing the slot, he may prefer to cut you loose so he can use that slot for another cadet in his program.

Does anybody know how much National Technical Honors Society would weigh in? I forgot i'll be eligible for it soon.

This does also factor into it, but in battalions with 100+ cadets, one cadet will NOT make or break that year's commissioning numbers. Some cadets will come and go with the the years as it is, so a lot of this comes down to the money.
