Ideas for Keeping Yourself Busy in the Months Before BOLC

Restaurants are a great idea, two of my kids work in restaurants and make great tips. There's also usually a high turnover rate, so any time of year they're usually hiring. Also, lots of the big chain restaurants will allow you to work this summer and into fall, and then maybe allow you to come back for a few months next year if you're between trainings/schoolhouses or whatever.

One more idea to add to the many great ones already posted above is life guarding. One kid is lifeguard by day and restaurant worker by night - a busy schedule but she's banking cash :)

I would try a local landscape contractor or one that does lawn work, they won't care if you leave in Sept some there season is winding down. Also try a temporary staffing company, they might have some stuff. Lastly go buss tables at a nice restaurant, DS does that during the summer and 1 night a week during school, he cost always makes $100 in tips plus $9 hr. The kid is awash in $$$$.

Sorry for the poor spelling in my previous post... fat finger on a smartphone keyboard will do that!!?

Infantry hooah! I've been reading FM 3-21.8 and the Ranger Handbook

Any other good reading suggestions?

3-21.10

Get onto army pubs and read anything in the 7 (infantry) series, 71 (combined arms) series, or 23 (weapons) series. Read some on individual soldier tasks.

Find the infantry commandants reading list and chief of staffs reading lists.

Granted, some of that doctrine will be over your head until your done with BOLC but bookmark them and read them later. I'm in an infantry company now and I frequently reference these pubs and stuff from BOLC prior to going out to the field. Especially when you start working with enablers. You can filter your reading even more when you find out what type of unit you're going to.
