Hi Danika,Are there any MOC noms that are better than the other? The Senators are Durbin and Kirk and then my Rep. is Kinzinger. Is there any person I should hope for over the others? Of course I'll be happy to get whatever I'm able to, but still.
* *In Illinois getting a nomination is not your biggest hurdle. This may be the only thing in Illinois government that is actually not political. Your biggest problem will be getting selected off of your slate.
Rocko's post about seeking every nomination possible is spot on. You should not worry about what you cannot control. That being said, I can give you some insight on last year's experience in district 16 and in IL. Rep Kinzinger does do interviews and the great thing is that he does them himself! Short and sweet, but pretty cool. I was impressed with his involvement in the process. He is former AF, so he takes the process very seriously. His office staff is great and very helpful. Based on last year, most likely you will be considered for an appointment with only one SA through district 16. It also appeared as though dist 16 coordinated with the senators so there were no duplications. The senators do not duplicate either as previously mentioned. Senator Kirk's office does interviews, but Durbin does not. There are obviously many applicants for the senator nominations. For Rep Kinzinger, last year it appeared the majority of the applicants were seeking a Navy nomination. Nothing concrete here, but it appeared that for USMA and USAFA there were not more than 10 applicants but there appeared to be more than 10 for Navy based on the kids discussions before the interviews. Obviously, that changes from year to year. Are there any MOC noms that are better than the other? The Senators are Durbin and Kirk and then my Rep. is Kinzinger. If you are applying to more than one SA, my advice would be to try really hard to figure out your ranking or preference prior to submitting the nomination paperwork. I think it is unrealistic to try to garner as many appointments as possible and then decide which you want to attend.
Best of luck!
This is really hard to believe. What does his website say about application deadlines? A rep is going to be your best bet for winning an appt as it will most likely not as competitive as a senator's slate. So if this true....good luck to those who live in this district.I am in the 16th district and went to Kinzingers office. Bonnie, his secretary, told me that USAFA nominations are basically no more. Because he was in the AF people have already came to him. So if you are seeking a USAFA nom as I am, it is best for us to go through our senators.
Her initial reaction to when she saw my top priority is USAFA was "Not another Air Force candidate..." And then she elaborated as to whyThis is really hard to believe. I just submitted my package to Kirk and Durbin, any chance I hear something before December?
