I'm sure there is a logical reason 360+ Mids didn't get their flights today....

The airlines are a wreck. Had DS booked to fly to London via Chicago. In the two weeks after booking, Chicago leg was canceled and rebooked twice. Cancelled yet again and this time rebooked via Dallas. That leg was then cancelled and rebooked, only to learn it was a software error (airline’s words) and didn’t need to be rebooked. He ultimately got where he was going, but that’s our post-covid world.

Don’t get me started on rental cars! That’s an even worse wreck!
Kinda makes you just want to stay home.

Wait…that’s Covid. Never mind.

Ugh…so when does normal start again 😂😂😂

Good luck to all. Was talking around the dinner table about all this with my Firstie, home on leave. He already had his amazing first block cancelled and had to throw together a plan B (had a ball…). And he isn’t confident his 3rd block will go.

Lessons: take nothing for granted, and nothing is a given!! A big ‘gut check’ result of the pandemic, that’s for sure!!

The airlines right now are a nightmare!!! Our flights were canceled today to head to USNA to take our plebe 2 be! Rescheduled for tomorrow but we have weather headed this way too. Not fun at all!! I figure eventually we will get her there just hope it’s before the oath on Wednesday night!!! I hope the mids get to their training. I do know that the airlines are totally understaffed right now. They did not hire back quickly enough for this summer high season.

Lot's of theories over there in the social media world - but I think the best place to ask and the most accurate military response is here....
380 Mids (give or take a few) were heading to PROTRIMID in San Diego today. Said Mids were informed yesterday that only 20 seats were booked for today and throughout the week they would eventually get out there. How does that happen? The remaining 360 Mids now will miss their first week of PROTRIMID. So I guess I am asking - typically - what is the procedure to book flights? Doesn't the Navy have big planes to bring a whole group somewhere? Commercial flights were the last thing I thought the military would rely on for transporting large number of Mids. Thanks everyone for your responses!

Do make sure that your MID keeps USNA updated if for some reason the reporting is going to be missed.

The last 15 months have had a huge effect on everything-sometimes in very unexpected ways. The whole flywheel of society and the economy has to get back up to speed in a billion different ways and it seems summer training is not immune. Everyone seems to be doing their best to adapt. My DS said that no one was expecting a bunch of mids showing up at MAGTF and they had to scramble. I’m just grateful there is summer training.

It really Is fascinating. Car dealership lots here are almost empty. Of course building a house is out of the questions bc materials are scares and triple the price. Even interior paint (friend owns a painting company). DH works in the building industry and buildings that are are being moved forward? They have to without HVAC/electronic systems. Just not available. Something about the resin used to coat chips was interrupted with the freezes down south. That affects all electronics (cars, planes, HVAC’s, etc). Still recovery from other weather events, too, beyond Covid.

We will get there. Eventually.

We are doing old-fashioned driving vacations this year, 3-4 days here and there, out and back. No air hassle, no rental car, even though I am awash in loyalty program points for United, National, Southwest and we could fly/rent for free. We are headed to some of the East Coast mountain resorts in the Adirondacks, Great Smoky Mountains, New Hampshire, Tennessee. We can take the dogs to the bay front Inn at Perry Cabin on the Eastern Shore, also scheduled.
2022 - back to cruising, fingers crossed, and other air travel.

That sounds awesome! We turned into people who think nothing of an 8 hour car ride. Living n the North East we can go back and forth twice in that time LOL.

We are going to a place I fondly remember from a car vacation with my parents when I was a kid, cool lake swimming, low humidity, fresh air, gorgeous scenery, cool evenings. The Sagamore, on Lake George, in NY. I am going to see if I can remember how to paddle a canoe.

Apologies for the thread unravel.

And we're gladly taking your flight spots in a couple of weeks. Out to Lost Wages for a short visit, mostly to see an art installation "Omega Mart" (link below) and then flying to Northern Calif to see newly discovered family and then back home.

Not unraveling at all … Those 360 or so that are stranded have “Thumbs” … backup transport plans … you know.

What “Semper … “ phrase do you guys always use?

We've heard that advance tickets are suggested as there is supposedly a lot of interest in it.

You could also try the Atomic Testing Museum (yes it is real). We visited it on a prior visit.

Where is “MAGTF”?

Air travel is a challenge for everyone right now. I’m not at all surprised to hear it’s affecting Mids heading to summer trainings.
