Well, I'm feeling kind of blue because my girl friend has an impressive resume that would easily grant her a full scholarship to any ivy league school.

I'm really jealous and I would like to know how I can improve my file for West Point Class of 2015. I just need the extra boost in confidence...

Academics:

-Distinguished Honor Roll for all but first two marking periods which were regular Honor Roll
-National Honor Society
-Gifted Education Program
-Sub 10/428 class rank
-96.02 UW GPA (3.9)
-All Honors Courses, hardest classes available
-Will have 8 APs by end of senior year
-1710 SAT as of Nov but taking a class for improvement

Extra Curriculars:

-Ski Club (9,10)
-Mock Trial (9)
-Peer Support Tutor (10,11) & 12 later
-President of Leo Club (11) & 12 later
-Waiting on Boys State acceptance

Athletics:

-Track and Field (9,10,11) & 12 later
-Guaranteed Varsity letter next year
-Strong possibility of being on leadership council at least next year

Well, my obvious strengths are my academics once I improve my SATs.
How can I realistically improve my file?

Thanks in advance.

No she doesn't because Ivy League schools do not offer scholarships based on merit.

That said, you are doing great! Keep up the good work and stay focused!

Keep working on those SATs, take challenging courses, and try and get a leadership position on your track team. That's all I can think of. Keep up the good work and get cracking on that application when it comes out in August. Oh, and ask for letters of recommendation BEFORE summer break. USMA will email the forms straight to your teachers in August.

Thank you. I received an email notifying me that I was selected as a delegate to attend Keystone Boys State today.
I will just continue to excel in what I am participating in, and in the Summer I will volunteer for the Red Cross and have a job.

Your leadership and athletics look strong and you've identified your major weakness in your SAT scores. Unless you expect to be a recruited athlete, make sure you allocate your time accordingly and work to strengthen your SAT scores.

Extracuriculars are important, but they won't overcome a weak SAT/ACT score.

As boring as it may be, approach your SAT's like you would your track and field training. You wouldn't expect to acheive varsity level performance with an hour or two a week effort. The same with the SAT's.

Begin now to work an hour a day on the math and verbal sections of the test, and sign up for as many SAT tests as your schedule permits until you get the score you need. I recommend you target 650 or better on the math and verbal.

Yes, the SAT study time will be a drag and no one will cheer you from the sidelines. But if you really want to get into West Point then you have to be ready to make some sacrifices.

Good luck and thanks for considering a career to serve our great country.

I am in the conclusion of my SAT prep course which I have taken for about a month. I have taken the 2nd practice test with the course and had a 1920 overall which is major improvement. 620 in CR and 650 in M were the numbers, I'm pretty confident that I will be close to these on the real test.
