When a cadet graduates and leaves the academy, I know they get some leave prior to attending their BOLC.

Having watched the videos of post night though there seems to be different times when the new 2nd LT's attend their BOLC, and possibly could even be the January after they graduate.

In this example what does the new 2nd LT do between finishing the academy and attending their BOLC

My son was to start bolc on Aug 21. He had to report on July 21. He went to base everyday for pt and was tasked for something, one week cleaning tanks etc., until he started bolc.
After he went right to a 2 week course and now is back to going to post everyday for pt and tasks while he waits for his next class in mid march.

Some cadets will 'snow bird' do jobs that are not on the training pathway--like report in to assist with summer training at USMA or report to their BOLC post and do the sort o work that @Cookiemom described above.

Depending on where you go for BOLC and how long you are “snow birding” there may be a chance to get a “short fall” for a short course. Also, some LTs get Air Assault at West Point before leaving.
I got an Air Force course, AGOS (Air Ground Operations School) this way. I was “snow birding” before the Captain Career Course and was assigned the job of answering the BN phones. I answered the phone and it was the brigade S-1 (personnel officer). He asked if there was a captain or Lieutenant in the area who wanted to go to an Air Force school at Hurlburt Field (Destin, FL). I looked around to make sure I wasn’t being pranked, then volunteered. Off to Destin for a two week course, no PT formations.
I wouldn’t count on it, but if you go to a post such as Benning keep your ears open.

was searching this topic and stumbled across this thread late. My daughter graduated from a SMC last month and still has not received a BOLC date. She branched Armor. I know a handful of cadets who graduated with her did not get BOLC dates until spring 23’. There has been very little info provided other than “hurry up and wait” (you’ll know when we know). She’s been maintaining communications with the Army Dept from her SMC. I am not prior service, so I have no idea how any of this works. Does Army not have something she could be doing on active duty orders while waiting for a BOLC date? She commissioned and is just kinda stuck, waiting. Is this normal? Appreciate any insight on this.
