I finished my application quite a while ago (November) and my nomination was filed in December, so I've been awaiting a 3Q letter.

I'm qualified with DoDMERB, my FFR told me I passed the CFA, but my academics have not been resolved. As far as I can tell from the class of 2022 profile, I'm in very good standing.

I asked my RC about when I'd get a confirmation that I'm 3Q, and he replied that I should expect a QNS in a week or so.

It seems rather early for the QNS, and I am very surprised by this because I believe I have a pretty strong application. Is it normal to send QNS letters this early? Is it possible my RC made a typo?

If you do receive a QNS letter its not the end of your journey. You still may be given an appointment if in the event someone else declines and if you're sitting high on the NWL. Like Ive always stated, have a Plan B and C. Look at going to a prep school and talk with your RC about this. Your RC may have scholarship money available through AoG. And/Or take Plebe equivalent courses at you local JC or college this coming year in preparations for next year application period. You have a lot of options at this point

Tough news, but there is still the flicker of hope as noted above.

Academically, yes, you may compare well and strongly with the class profile, but test scores, class standing and other stats are only part of the scholastic element of 3Q. Schools are compared against each other. There is all that “other stuff” - Eagle Scout, Boys’ and Girls’ State, leadership, civic involvement, unusual achievements - you have no idea what your competition has brought to the table in the groups you have been compared in.

If you do get the TWE -Thin White Envelope, The Worst Email - and if you really want this, re-applicants do get in. Even re-re-applicants. If your goal is to serve as an Army Officer, you know you have other paths. Coach yourself through this.

Do you have your ROTC applications in? What is your plan B? And @Capt MJ is right - re-applicants do get in. Keep moving forward with your other plans.

Thank you for your support. I completely agree. However, I just heard back from my RC, and it was in fact a typo! I'm still in this!!!

I went through a similar event. It was not a QNS letter but an application update letter saying that I was not competetive enough and I immedietly emailed everyone I had previously contacted in admissions at USMA and a few days later I got a reply saying they had entered my class rank in as the lowest in my class because my school doesnt rank and it had tanked my score. Luckily they reopened my application and its been smooth from here.
Its scary and sad though when you hear that stuff from them after going through so much to apply.

I'm so happy it was a typo and that ur back in man!!! Hope to hear more good news and hopefully see you there if we both get it!!!

Oh my. That's a pretty terrible typo to have to endure. Glad to hear you're still in the hunt. Best of luck!
