Inaccurate medical records and timing regarding ROTC scholarship and matriculation. Please advise!

So, my DS was awarded a 3-year scholarship, but was medically DQ'd and has remedials for childhood ADHD, and a few related diagnoses.

First, some facts:
A. I have a letter from his former psychiatrist stating that 4 of his 5 medical issues have been resolved as of 3 years ago. The 5th was overlooked because it had been resolved so long ago and honestly, I forgot about it.
B. The AMI requires him to have a psych eval. I'm not at all worried about that.
C. When I reviewed his medical records regarding these diagnoses, I found an error saying that he had been hospitalized for them. That's 100% not the case. The records also list his "problems" but don't have resolution dates on most of them.
D. I submitted a request to the hospital network to have his medical record changed. They have 60 days to make a decision--pushing the possibility of a corrected medical record out to at least June.
E. DS has not decided which of two universities he would like to attend (need to visit to check out their ROTC programs)
F. DS was awarded an on-campus ROTC scholarship to augment the National one, but not at his preferred schools. I'm hoping he can secure on-campus scholarships for the other two schools.
G. DS will have to commit to a school likely before we find out if he gets a waiver.

Now, some questions!
1. I'm worried the waiver authority will see the inaccurate info in his MR. Should I really be worried about this if I'm confident his psych eval will come out perfectly?
2. Should I write a letter to the waiver authority pointing out these inaccuracies and letting them know I've requested a correction?
3. Will his current status of being "deferred" while the remedials are happening make him less competitive for an on-campus scholarship? (I know it's a stretch to ask this question here)
4. Is there any advice you have about this situation we're in based on the "facts" I provided, and how to affect a positive outcome for my DS?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Could the DR of his care pertaining to the hospitalization, provide some sort of supporting letter/evidence that he was NOT hospitalized? For the interim period of 60 days wait from the hospital correction? I would at least want to get that piece addressed/setteled asap. And yes, he should reach out about that incorrect item, imo.

Idk, but a hospitalization may have a higher element of consideration than a non-hospitalization. I’m not DODMERB so no idea but I would want that addressed asap, if it were me.

That’s all I can address in your list.

It's great he is working through this now! I would continue to pursue getting his record corrected regarding the hospitalization. Your SON should write a letter to DODMERB emailing it to his DODMERB technician, pointing out the inaccuracies and let them know that he's requested a correction. It's ok for you to assist him with this, but it should come from HIM. Assist him to do as much of this on his own with you as his backup/guide. I am not sure about number 3, all I can say is my son was offered on campus scholarships prior to even beginning the medical waiver process, so I don't think so. His wavier wasn't granted until he was well into his freshman year. I have heard it's better to choose the school first, so in the event that ROTC either isn't something he wants to continue, or on the chance the waiver is not approved, he's still in a place he wants to continue and can afford. Good luck!

Just a quick FYI, your SON, NOT YOU needs to write any letters or make any inquiries (unless he is 17). If you start intervening, it could possibly give Cadet Command the wrong opinion that your son is not mature enough to handle his own affairs. Follow justdoit19's advice, get the hospital records, and any other supporting documents or evidence, then your son can answer any questions and send in the requested info. Good Luck!!

Thank you for emphasizing the importance of this. It's a full time job getting all of these records together and combing through them, so I'm just helping to expedite this, but you're 100% correct that he should be submitting all of the information. Tho' it just occurred to me to wonder if they know who actually sends in the info to DoDMERB. [insert shrug emoji!] (Yes, he's 17 for a few more months.)

Thank you for the great advice. Yes, I'll have him send the information in himself. Fingers crossed he can still be considered for on-campus while the deferment is in place. And I agree, we need a Plan B and maybe a Plan C!
