I am trying to help one of my students figure out next steps following a medical DQ for a condition that she has never had. My understanding is that an incorrect diagnosis was issued at her dodmerb exam that has never been part of her medical history and she has never been treated in any way for this condition. This diagnosis lead to a medical disqualification despite a letter from her primary care physician stating that she has never had or been treated for said condition. Does this student have any recourse at this point, and how can she get this error corrected in her medical file as it could have further negative consequences if she decides to pursue a military career via an avenue other than an academy or ROTC. I am just looking for a starting place to tell her so that she can get the process going...she has details that I am not privy to, but she is at a loss right now as to how to begin. Thank you for any help.

If she hasn’t yet read the multi-page note on process written by DODMERB Deputy Director Larry Mullen, which gives his email address at the bottom, she should.

If she believes there is nothing in her medical records, no mention, no history, of the condition, and that a mistake has been made, she may want to take the approach of gathering a few pertinent docs and attaching them to a well-organized bullet-pointed email to Mr. Mullen, requesting his review.

You note that a “diagnosis” was made at her DODMETS exam. She should think back to any questions she may have “over-answered,” which may have given rise to the DQ diagnosis.

I am only recommending elevation to Mr. Mullen because I assume she has gotten on the phone with her assigned DODMERB tech to discuss and found no recourse there.
