It quells the separation anxiety suffered by helicopter parents. Gone are the days when they dropped us off and came back 4 yrs later. I think the next phase will be parents taking up residency aboard to monitor every phase of progress. Joe Kass will have a welding class just for parents. LOL

The school started posting photos back when my kid was a plebe. I always found them amusing.. The wife and I would check the pics periodically to make sure he was staying put and hadn't fled the place to head back home. :zip:I gotta say it was 'touch and go' even after indoctrination, as academically he very rarely ran with the wind abaft the beam.

By the way, I had my son as a deck cadet.. So basically I took 'helicopter' parenting to a higher level [pun intended]. 😁

When I was 1/E on the Kauai, a mother somehow got the ship's number while we were tied up in Oakland, CA to ask if we had a pharmacy aboard so DS could get his allergy meds. I sent the young lad on a beer run and had him pick up stuff for me at Walgreens to save him the embarrassment.

@KPEngnr90 Yikes.. I can just hear the response of some overworked Chief Mate having to field that call.. :mad2: So you were the 1AE on the KAUAI.. I relieved Captain Cooper for a trip on there back before I was assigned as permanent skipper on one of the 2600's. I liked those 071 class ships. I always thought they were a comfortable ride; at least up forward they were. Back aft at 'full sea speed' they would rattle pretty good. Here's a nice pic of the KAUAI docking on a perfect evening at Sand Island.. Looks like assist tugs MIKIOI and maybe the PIILANI pushing at a 90 on the portside. The Pineapple Run.. It just doesn't get any better than that Brah. 😎🏄🏽‍♂️🍍

Miss the Kauai. I saw pictures of her as she was being towed out of Oakland CA heading to Brownsville Texas to be scrapped.

I’m a grad, not a parent and to say the least I’m impressed by what I see. The harder the activity, the more the look of determination on the faces!
I'm also a grad and am impressed by the mids. I was referring more to the social media postings. Advantages and disadvantages. Don't think I'd have been too crazy about my folks being able to track me daily. Just different times. On the plus side, they have lots of photos to document Indoc.
