My son was awarded second board. We sent the letter back immediately, on 1/24, as well as proof of acceptance via ED to a school not listed on his award letter and a request for transfer.
I know the military moves at its own speed, but anyone else gone through the transfer process and can tell me how long this took before you heard from Cadet Command? Do they wait until after the last board before they process transfers?

I've read that applicants have requested for transfer and received them before the 3rd Board. For instance, I read where one transfer request for a 3-year scholarship made on 2/15/18 was approved on 2/27/18 (only 12 days). The sooner the better to avoid the transfer request rush. Uploading your transfer request is the fastest, easiest and preferred method of sending documents.

Allow me to not answer your questions, but rather describe my DS’s experience several years ago.

He received 4 yr AROTC scholarship to and was accepted to GA Tech as an OOS. For reasons I can’t quite recall, he requested to transfer the scholarship to Big 10 State U, also as an OOS. I think it probably had to do with $. At the same time, he requested to defer the scholarship for a year so as to do a gap year.

The first thing he did was contact the admissions department at the target school who really wanted him (unlike GA tech who really didn’t care). He humbly asked them to contact the PMS and ROO and put in a word for him. He then contacted the Battalion at Big 10 U, explained his plans and humbly asked for any help they could offer in the transfer.

Sometime after he went overseas for the gap year, I got a call from the ROO, who didn’t realize that DS was gone. His first words were something to the effect of “I just received a call from admissions and they really seem to want your son.”

As I recall the whole process lasted several months and the final word came sometime after the final Board.

I went through all that detail to suggest that your DS do the same thing as mine. Contact the relevant folks at the school he wants and let them know that his heart is set on that school and Battalion. They really appreciate certainty.

Finally, my DS had the advantage of transferring to a school whose tuition was about $15k/yr cheaper, which probably trumped his bonafides or lack thereof.

Best of luck and let us know the outcome!
