Recently, I had a sponsor mid who struggled with the run for PS, plebe year, youngster (sophomore) year. With no academic, conduct or other performance problems, this mid was involuntarily separated at the end of youngster year for failure to pass the run portion of the PRT. The mid spent a lot of valuable time with the remedial squad. Because the mid was unsat in PRT, the mid was not eligible for weekends away, per the company policy. The mid was miserable in this aspect of their USNA life. The ex-mid is now working at Starbucks, living at home and going to community college. Nothing wrong with that, but a dream was shattered because of a time issue on the run. Sadly, many classmates offered to help out and be a "pace car" on practice runs to build confidence, but the mid always had something else to do. There could have been some deep issues inside the mid's mind that set the stage for failure and dismissal, but it was a conscious choice.
Don't be that mid. Don't get a spotlight on yourself for PRT weaknesses. Go see track coaches at your school, talk to friends on the track team, research online, figure out your problem, whether it's mental, your form or your training plan.
It's a little late in the day, but you might be able to get a little insight. And get some confidence-builder runs in before you go, so you don't go out too hard at the start of PS and be "that mid" already on chit (med excusal) for shin splints.
Other posters have good advice - most do pass it by end of summer. The mid I spoke of finally did, but when not supervised, had trouble making standard due to lack of focus in the problem area.
Believe you can..work at it.. and you will. Good luck!
