Insurance Question

Losing his/her insurance after leaving a service academy is an ACA qualifying event so open enrollment would not apply.
Regardless, ACA is a HORRIBLE deal unless you qualify for subsidies. Very high premiums and horrendous deductibles.

Thank you so much, yes we belong to Presbyterian church, will look into Christian health plans. Think it is open enrollment time. My husband took job out of country so had to purchase through ACA, awful insurance & experience.
Like you said, ACA is absolutely the worst deal in insurance, unless you qualify for subsidies and even the it's terrible insurance at an affordable price.

Do check out the Christian plans, you'll be amazed at how good a deal they are. I think our family of 5 pays $583 a month, and our FAMILY deductible is $2,500 a year, not per person, that's the total out of pocket our family pays in a year. After the deductible is met, they cover 100%.

Contrast that to the BCBS plan I had at $850 a month, $7,500 deductible and 70/30 pay ratio. Thank you ACA.

One of my doctors called me into his office to discuss it, I thought there was a problem. He said to the contrary, he liked it so much he was switching his family, and possibly his office staff over to it.

And they do qualify for ACA as an approved alternative. As I said there are other similar plans, check them all out and consider what's best for you.

As a footnote, they are not allowed to call it insurance, they have to call it bill sharing to avoid all the govt regulations that drive up the costs.

I don't disagree, coach. But that was not the point. The focus that was pre-existing issues no longer apply to a cadet/mid who is disenrolled. Mom can add him/ her without waiting for open enrollement. It is the law.

Sometimes duplication is too costly and in this case she seemed concerned over the decision.
