Greetings all,

I've been a lurker on this forum for a while now. I'm really excited for my dream to start on the way to becoming reality. I've wanted to be a military aviator my whole life, and I was told long ago that USAFA is the way to go. Any advice or criticism would be greatly appreciated. Here's what I've got going:

  • HS Junior, 17 years old. Demographics, if they matter: Male, Ojibwe and white.
  • I come from Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District. I live in a rural area, and my school is tiny - my graduating class is 20 kids.
  • More on my school - we are not offered AP courses, but I've taken the most advanced classes I can so far. (Calc, programming, chemistry, some ITV courses next year) Because we have a good high school, but live in a rural area, my class rank is low. My friends who apply themselves to harder classes are very smart, so they get high GPAs. On the other hand, my friends who go to technical schools or straight into the workforce, take easy classes, and get high GPAs. My GPA is 3.90, but I'm ranked at 7th in my class. The top 50 percent of students in my class are very close in rank to each other.
  • I will have my Private Pilot License by next fall. I received an Air Force Aim High Flight Academy scholarship for 15 flight hours and mentoring by Air Force personnel. Currently at 18 hours.
  • At my school and in my community, I join everything I can and seek leadership positions. Things like CAP or JROTC are not available to me. Too far to drive.
    • Church Council, member
    • Concert Band
    • Marching Band
    • FFA
    • NHS, Vice President and Historian
    • Class Vice President
    • Prom Committee
    • Member of Local EAA Chapter
    • Kinship
    • Baseball, probably varsity this year
    • Forensics team Captain
    • Trap Squad Captain, Varsity
  • Took the ASVAB, got a 81
  • PreACT - 26 composite. This will go up a lot, I took the test a few months ago. I can expect a 30+. I will take it again my senior year, as USAFA super scores.
  • I have no concerns about the CFA, I work out and run a lot. Live in a rural area, I am outside working a lot.
  • I work as a prep cook at a local grill.
  • 155 service hours - I volunteer with my church, the NHS, the EAA, and the American Red Cross.
  • Will be going to boys state.
  • Awards / Achievements
    • State of Wisconsin 2024 VFW Voice of Democracy competition - 2nd Place
    • Air Force Aim High Flight Academy Scholarship
    • Other more minor stuff, placing at State Trap, State Forensics, solo ensemble, etc.
  • If not accepted, I'll try USNA or AFROTC at a local college.
  • Some personal stuff: I have strong speaking skills; I'm pretty confident for the congressional interviews. Service is very important to me. One grandfather was a B-24 pilot with 50+ missions against Nazi Germany, the other was an infantryman in the Italian Campaign, my uncle was an F-4 mechanic in the Air Force. Both my parents are retired police officers. I pride myself on being hardworking and committed. If you have any suggestions, please comment. Thanks for your time!
