I know the policy with cell phones (not allowed during plebe summer, get back for ac year). But what about iPhones? Would any current mids out there recommend for or against getting an iPhone before going to USNA? I was thinking about getting one, but wasnt sure if it would be a waste at USNA. Thanks for the advice!

Isn't an Iphone a cellphone?

...I do not understand your question...the Iphone is a cellphone, therefore the same rules apply...

iphones can do a lot more than your average cellphone...hence his question

not sure...current mid would know

a lot of ppl have iphones..jus dont get caught doin something ur not supposed to with it (i.e. music)

To all Appointees of 2014:

What is more important to all of you...having the latest cool toy or securing your place in the USNA?

My advice is to keep your nose clean even only until after the Xmas Break...Even if it means postponing buying an IPHONE! You have more important things to worry about and an IPHONE will just be a distraction. Who knows, Apple may even have a cooler toy for you to buy during the XMAS of 2010.

Be patient, keep your eye on the price and don't get distracted.

GO NAVY!

iPhone would Not be permitted for a plebe. Maybe next year. Plebes don't "rate media". They don't even have speakers on their computers.

As a current mid, I can tell you that iphones are perfectly alright to have. About half the plebes acutally have iphones, and the navigation function comes in handy when you're walking around DC on your overnight looking for the Thurston dorms. Just don't get caught listening to the music and you'll be fine. Also, contrary to popular belief (scada), if you're not able to get work done in the presence of an iphone, you're going to have a lot bigger problems when you arrive at the naval academy and have thousands of other distractions. If you want an iphone, get an iphone.

Many mids have i-phones, plebes included. Not a big deal.

Get one, they're very handy. Don't be an idiot and get caught listening to Lady Gaga while you're doing chemistry homework. It's not a distraction, it's a change of pace.
