Is an "at risk" status a disqualifying factor for DODMERB?

This is one of those "asking for a friend" situations. I've done the whole DODMERB deal (and qualified, aided by some help from the man himself) once in my day and have no desire to do it again. I'm currently at USAFA, and I'm "mentoring" some hopeful future cadets. One of them was notified today that they have prediabetes after some blood work and from my research, it seems as if this is just being at a higher risk for diabetes in the future, and doesn't have any imminent effects on them. My curiosity is whether or not this is a big issue, like a potentially hope-dashing issue. I don't know how to answer their questions about the potential effects. I don't need specifics, just a general sense of whether or not to advise them to continue the application or start looking at a plan B.

There are prior threads on this. Do a search. Elevated hemoglobin A1C levels can be disqualifying

FACTS:

1. This is the current DoD standard that DoDMERB will apply. "b. Diabetic disorders, including: ... (2) History of unresolved pre-diabetes mellitus (as defined by the American Diabetes Association) within the last 2 years."

2. Waivers? Case-by-case basis---a risk assessment of ability to safely/successfully train, commission, and be world-wide deployable after commission. Google "DoDMERB;" Hit "Questions on the process;" """IF""" an applicant meets the criteris in paragraphs 11-12 (13 or 14 for ROTC), then 15-21 will apply. :wiggle:
