It should also be noted that depending on what kind of aircraft you get assigned (jets) and what side of the house you decide to enter in on (Marines) you might not wing for 3 years or more, which of course means your winging committment would start later. One of my plebe summer detailers is actually still in Jet advanced right now (I graduated last May). That's definitely unusual, but the point is that winging commitment can and sometimes is pushed significantly later.
I know a lot of guys who wanted to five and dive that selected subs. A significant part of your time is spent on training in the beginning (you won't go to sea for the first 1+ years), and you get out with a fairly direct path into employment into the nuclear industry if you want that.
