DS never asked for an interview from USMA. He did an interview for USAFA and USNA, he applied for all. He received LOA and Nomination(NY) for USMA. CFA is still pending but I know his score is about the average. 7th Semester transcript is not in yet(School ended at the end of January). His admission officer never mentioned about an interview. Is this normal? Someone wrote that its a bad sign if CFA is still pending.

Usually your FFR or MALO will contact you for an interview, the earlier on the better. To be honest, I am not sure whether not having an interview is a bad sign, but I would still keep your hopes up.

Interview for USMA is required for an appointment, otherwise optional. Interviews are also conducted at discretion of FFRs, so you could be interviewed without being considered for an appointmen.

You should have an ALO listed on your portal. You can always send a polite intro email and give an update. When my DD contacted ALO, she was told that interview will happen after the noms. However this may not be the case with all.

I was never contacted about one myself but I believe it is a requirement. I reached out to my ffr and scheduled one, so you may have to take the initiative on that

I don't quite understand. What do you mean by it is required for an appointment but otherwise optional? Are there people that don't want an appointment?

Interviews are not typically given unless a FF Rep, District Coordinator, the RC or someone higher up in the food chain wants one, like for early cycle LOA purposes. Otherwise, interviews are normally given when the file is populated enough that the FF Rep is assured that candidate has a reasonable chance of earning an appointment. After October I do not interview anyone without a NOM or a passed CFA. Don't wait for deadlines. Get your file completed early. Get the CFA done in the summer. I expect files to be completed by end of October. Candidates had to jump through hoops to meet NOM deadlines in Sept/Oct . Show WP is your priority and finish your file by then. My district too competitive to see this otherwise...

I was also never contacted for an interview. I was nominated (NY-20) and 3Qd without one.

If a candidate is being considered for an appointment, an interview must be in his or her file before a decision is made. So if there is no interview on file, the admissions office will reach out a FFR to get an interview done. So if you are not contacted for an interview, your chance of an appointment is not high. FFR could conduct interviews on their own without being asked by the admissions office.

In my case, I did my interview back in mid July. I contacted my FFR and scheduled the interview myself.

I also received an LOA for '23. Although I met with my diversity officer early in the admissions process, I never had an official interview with anyone. Of course, I interviewed with a senatorial and congressional panel though. I don't know if this will help or if anything has changed, but I was offered my appointment without an interview.
