Is Lasik allowed?

Hi I was wondering if you could get laser eye surgery or any medical work done while you are at the academy.

Is USAFA doing LASIK now? USMA is still only approving PRK.
When my procedure was done, they had both machines on campus -- on a swivel. The Dr. said "Hello, what branch...." then swung around the PRK machine.

Certainly not definitive language to share, but here is something from the official page:
"What if I’ve had surgery to correct my vision?
Applicants who have undergone correction of visual acuity by photo refractive keratotomy (PRK) or laser-assisted stromal in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery may be considered one year from the date of the operation. Note that corrective eye surgery may disqualify applicants for pilot or other specific roles."

Classic - it depends type answer, but both types can be allowed. 100% would wait until I was a student before getting a procedure, and I would let the USAF do the work to ensure I stayed within their guidelines.

Would Lasik surgery impact pilot eligibility?

My son (Class of 2011) had PRK done at USAFA because at that time it was the only approved method if you wanted to be a pilot. I am not sure if that has changed to allow LASIK now.

Please re-read the quote. It clearly states "Note that corrective eye surgery may disqualify applicants for pilot or other specific roles." There is too much nuance to this specific question that members of this forum cannot answer definitively and are unable to speak on behalf of the USAF.

Sorry, I missed that.
