My son had his DoDMERB exam the other day. He said they asked him about his questionnaire and did a very cursory physical. Is that it? We thought they would at least do a blood draw.
 
Most don't require the blood and urine samples anymore ! When I went in for mine, it was very brief (15 minutes or less). I didn't have to do either as well. Nothing to worry about ! Just make sure you're prepared to answer remedials and such once the paperwork gets processed.

My DS took almost an hour for his physical. Said it was the most thorough exam he ever haf! The vision on the other hand... 15 minutes in and out!

Be prepared.. they hit us up for his x-ray when he had pneumonia. Did not expect that one. Totally cleared but nothing we thought about in the scheme of things. It was the shin splints we were worried about and did get a remedial.
 
He won’t have his vision exam for a couple of weeks, but has some issues on the physical that may go to remedial. Will they process the physical before they get the vision? We’d like to get rolling ASAP!
 
The vision is independent of the physical. They can run concurrent or sequential, but DoDMERB will not Q or DQ until they receive both.

Understand that DoDMERB is run out of Colorado Springs where USAFA is located, but they handle ALL branches of service, including Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and of course Air Force.

DoDMERB decides if your candidate is Q or DQ no more and no less.
Waivers are decided by the Program, whether it is an SA or ROTC program.

it was my understanding vision had to go first because if they failed that it was a hard stop

That may be now the case as the vision test is likely less expensive to the tax payers than a physical.

Was this sequence outlined in DoDMETS? I believe that my DS was able to schedule both appointments independently. However, this was three years ago so things may indeed have changed.

You are permitted to schedule both at the same time. You control which one happens first.

i believe it was outlined for DS in October he had to do vision first. Pity I can’t pull the info up. I think he has a hard copy of the info at home. If it says that I will respond otherwise I stand corrected.
 
Our DD had hers They did blood and urine test. Got sent to a separate place for optical exam too. They asked about the topical acne med she was on but end result was Qualified. We are waiting to hear and hope to be #101 soon. )

not sure where you are seeing this - my DC's medical is over, so I can't look back everything as I first saw it, but I can assure you that the eye exam CAN be performed before the medical exam. If not, my DC wouldn't have received a commission, nor would the DODMETS system accept a scheduled date prior to the medical exam. The kids schedule the exams themselves, typically in close succession. DODMETS isn't receiving the eye exam, reviewing it, and then approving the rest of the physical, so the order makes no difference at all.

The only thing I can still see on DDODMETS' website that even comes close to addressing this is the following from their FAQ page:

"Generally, we receive results within 7 to 10 business days. Concorde "chases” results vigorously to ensure that we can move you along in the process. Some information can take less or more time, depending on the circumstances involved. Once we have both the physical and optometrist examinations and they have been reviewed by a Concorde case manager, your file is sent to the Department of Defense for review. This may take up to 2 to 4 weeks."

Who knows - maybe it's different depending on the service, or if its ROTC, but DODMETS administers the exams for everyone, right? Are you sure what you are referring to is from DODMETS? I have no recollection of anything like that.
