Is the Naval Academy interested in exoskeletons?

Just curious as I revisited a video about Ford's factory exoskeleton which you can find on Youtube if you're interested as well.

It was more specific and practical for mechanical labor but I am learning that others are developing exoskeletons for search and rescue applications.

What do you guys think?

I am interested in studying exoskeletons because of my interest in Gundam as a kid until now. What do you think I can study at the Naval Academy to explore my interest?

Anyway thanks!

Yeah the robotics engineering major is awesome and I bet you’d find it interesting.

There is a huge difference between this:

and this:

My DS#2 works for a NASA Contractor whose name includes the word Robotics. When he applied for an NROTC 4yr, his dream was to be the Officer in charge of the catapult on an aircraft carrier. He was awarded the scholarship but was medically DQed. He pursued a conventional Mech E degree and used every elective in Computer Science. His internships and jobs during college were equal parts machining components and writing code for the controllers.

I hope you like math, coding and can safely operate a lathe.

I like the sound of it! May I ask why do you like robotics engineering?

Well it’s actually not my major, but I have heard many great things from classmates regarding it, also the subject matter seems the most interesting to me. If I had to pick an engineering major it would definitely be my choice. Some friends have said that it offers more creative reign in projects than the others. I’d recommend reading more at usna.edu/WRC/index.php

Rest assured you’ll have plenty of assistance coming to your decision during Plebe Year. Upperclassmen and professors will eagerly share their perspectives.

DS, '21, is in this major and did a two block, six-week internship at MIT last summer, which now seems like a million years ago. Believe me that there are plenty of places and needs in the fleet to exercise the skills he developed.
