Hi, I’m currently a sophomore in HS, and my biggest aspiration is to attend USNA. But recently I’ve been experiencing breathing issues that doctors believe is either vocal cord dysfunction or asthma. They are currently trying to rule one or the other out so nothing’s for certain. I understand that asthma is a disqualification, but is VCD disqualifying? I haven’t been able to find anything about it. And if so, would a medical waiver be possible? I’m a fit and active person and although the shortness of breath is somewhat consistent, I’m still able to be physically active with little to no difficulty.

Recommend posting in DoDMERB forum, where you will probably be answered by the Deputy Director of DoDMERB, Mr. Larry Mullen, who kindly assists applicants here.

In the meantime, recommend going to the DoDMERB website and reading through every item on the left-hand side menu.
