Hi. My DS received a call from Soldier Admissions telling him as long as he received his medical waiver there was a spot being held for him at the PS. He received a Letter of Assurance for USMAPS. Good news: waiver has been granted. So we've been hoping/waiting for the Letter of Appointment. Today, he received a Letter of Disqualification for West Point. Is this the end of the line - OR - is this just the a necessary step in moving from no appointment to West Point but receiving the appointment to the Prep School? He's quite concerned, as we are and wondering if this is the end ... or more of the beginning of the process for the PS. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Try reaching out to Larry Mullen in the DODMERB Forum. Your son. He will receive great response there.

Your DS will get his most accurate answer from his Admissions POC as to what his status is now. It would seem to be good, as he has received a medical waiver, which fulfills the requirement for a seat at USMAPS. The letter from West Point saying he is disqualified may refer to his academic qualification. Again, time for him to jump on the phone and go right to the source.

Thank you Captain MJ (oops sorry I had Mullen). That's exactly what I've advised him to do.

Capt MJ...my son...is 100% correct, as always:)

To the OP, yes receiving a letter that your file is officially disqualified is a required step in the process. USMA is very clear that only non-qualified candidates are eligible for USMAPS. If he has an LOA to prep he is still in a good place.

Oh my goodness. This thread has made me laugh which is helping with the nerves!
On another note, DS spoke to his POC and was reassured that he is still on track and right where he needs to be. Very helpful and reassuring. So professional and wonderful. I appreciate this forum, too!m

his POC was his RC?

His POC was not his RC. His POC is the person at WP in Soldier Admissions assigned to his application/file. His POC is the one who reassured him that all is well/on track and that the disqualification from WP was a step in the process of him being considered for USMAPS. Sorry for any confusion.
