I am sharing this again because it is as relevant today as it was the first time I posted it---which was on the 21st of APRIL!!!!! of my 2LT's senior year of high school.

Good Morning All. Four years ago today the BFE arrived at our home. My firstie cadet had received no letters, no phone calls, no signs of life or interest from USMA. He had submitted his 7th semester transcript in late January and that had been the end of things--and in the meantime he had received 4 other school acceptances, an Army ROTC scholarship, and an appointment to another federal service academy, which he had accepted before the clock ran down (it was a lot of soul searching). If you are still waiting, it just means that you are still waiting. We know how sickening it can feel to still have the thing you really want hanging out there unknown. You are still 'Schroedinger's Candidate'--not knowing if it will be the BFE or the TWE, but if they did not want you for sure, you would have that TWE already. Hang in there. Keep Faith.

I am in the exact same boat right now that your cadet was during his senior year. I have been accepted to 3 other school and have also received a 4 year Army ROTC Scholarship. However, USMA approved my medical waiver on April 1st of 2022. My FFR has been mentioning the possibility of me going to USMAPS because of my SAT and ACT scores, which I am totally okay with. I just can't wait to hopefully hear something soon!

Jarvis. I am sending good vibes your way. The next three weeks may seem very long. Don’t let the waiting ruin this time of your life.have fun at prom & spring break & Easter w the family (if you celebrate or Passover…) Congratulations on the 4 year rotc scholarship.

Same here,

Been accepted into all other 5 schools I applied to, got army rotc 3 year scholarship. Just waiting for the only one I really care about now haha.

Fought for 3 months for a waiver, by December I finished my file, took 4 months for them to review my cfa, got 3q'ed March 18th. NWL ever since.

From what I gathered, I'm highly competitive, but got pretty unlucky with where I live. FFR said I'm only top 5 in my district, over 22 applied. FFR said 8 were more than qualified to attend, but alas only 1 could get the appointment. Congressman nomination already given to someone else, ROTC nomination not too sure on.

But life's a marathon, not a sprint, so if I don't get in this year I'll be reapplying.

Thank you, DrMom, for the encouragement. I feel you, Jarvis2003, 3 year ROTC to my top choice SMC, and have been accepted to the three other SMC I've applied to. Same boat as Jacobko75 with the highly competitive area where I live. The waiting is agonizing. I'm very happy with my 2nd choice as I also have a spot on a sports team there but West Point has been my goal since I can remember.
I've gotten varying advice as to keep emailing admissions so they know I'm still interested but most say do NOT email. I have not. I've also been advised to reach out once again to the athletic department. I've reached out at least 3 times over the past 6 months with no reply. What good would it do now? Once again, I have not.
Praying, studying, excelling, practicing, playing and living until the final answer.

The stress of waiting is honestly unlike anything I've ever experienced. Over 5 years pulling 115+ hours a week in the pursuit of one goal coming to down to a single moment, that happens out of your control. Combine that with finals, responsibilities, and everything else life throws at you, gets to be a lot. But I suppose that's the purpose of the system, to see who will break. Just got to keep moving and focus on what you can control, grades, athletics, etc.

I wish you the best of luck, hang in there.

And to you. I'm confident that whoever gets the coveted appointment deserves to be there and I'm proud of that elite fighting force. I'm pulling for you.

DrMom is awesome. Thanks so much for the encouragement. And seeing others in the same proverbial boat also helps. Jacobko75 - if you have pulled 115 hr/week for 5 years towards this goal, I'm inclined to give you my spot if I am offered an appointment! That is some great dedication, which I certainly did not do. No matter what happens man, you worked hard for something and that's probably a bigger accomplishment than an appointment, imho. For me, I did the best I could under the circumstances. That's all I could do. If I knew five years ago that I wanted to go to WP, I would have certainly done some things differently, but I was a different person back then, also was also only 13 so I was more concerned with ranking up in COD rather than trying to make Boys State or get a varsity letter in football. If I don't get an appointment, I'll ROTC'y up and hopefully get a commission in 4 years where I'll join other bros and sis' fighting the good fight. I've heard that there's some snobbery against ROTC commissions by the SA grads, but I'll control what I can control, do my best and I'm confident that I'll be happy with whatever outcome.

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it.

I have nothing against rotc, just about every officer I know came from it, and their incredible. I personally felt a connection to USMA since I was a kid and got tunnel vision from it. ROTC will always be my backup, I just don't feel that same spark from it.

I went from playing video games 24/7 back in middle school, skipping school to do so, to doing a complete 180 and decided that I wanted to do something meaningful with my life, and have been following that path since.

Just reading your posts makes me believe that you will get an appointment. Maybe not this year, but eventually yes.

Years ago, I met a young woman who was in her "cow" year at USMA. She already held a bachelors degree from a four year college when she finally received her appointment.

If USMA is one of the key goals in your life, persist.

Does anyone know what are the final dates that we must notify a Service Academy if you plan to accept the appointment. I think it’s April 16th for Air Force but I’m not sure what the accept or decline date is for Naval Academy and West Point.

USMA is 1 May. So there will be people who receive a TWE & then are accepted after 1 May because there are young men & women who struggle to make this final decision.

Thank you, DrMom! We are awaiting word over here too. My son did get the four year ROTC scholarship too. I am beyond proud of his dedication to wanting to be a military leader. His goal is to make it to that no matter what. USMA has the military education he is after. God knows the plan!

Best wishes to your family. I know how hard these next two or three weeks can be. Hang in there.

Sadly the TWE arrived yesterday, we knew about it as it was posted to the portal. DS has accepted the AOG scholarship and that is great. Just wondering if he still had a chance for a direct, would those parameters be specifically controlled just from our congressional district i.e.., if someone else that received an appointment did not accept?

Right so if someone drops out or breaks a leg, your kid may be next on the list. But don’t plan on it.

My son received an appointment from another services academy and must accept or decline before April 15th. My question is can he accept USMA and decline an already accepted appointment? His first choice is USMA and we have been patiently waiting. We still have 2 more days.

Yes, it happens every year. If he really wants a service academy experience and is at peace with going to another school rather than using his ROTC scholarship to go Army somewhere else, then he can and should accept the other appointment before it expires. If and when he gets an USMA appointment, he can accept it and then decline the other appointment...and do not worry...he will be making some other kid's dream come true.

Unless he does not want to go to USNA or USAFA or be in the Navy or Air Force, then he should really decline and use his ROTC scholarship. Otherwise, if things are equal and he is just called to serve, then go ahead and accept--and have the peace that it is secure. One of my boys had to do this with the earlier deadline for USAFA--but there was a lot of soul searching.
