A happy arrival story…

DS arrived at his boat a few months ago. He was introduced to the Wardroom and given a tour, everyone super friendly and happy. The JOs, particularly… at one point the JOs all mash into one small room, shut the door, and initiate my Bull/JORG with the joys of a “JORM”, a Jr Officer Retention Meeting. Yup… first day on the boat. I’m like, “what!? You just got there!”

Apparently a JORM involves much laughter and my kid fell in love with the Navy all over again.

Thank you, fast attack submarine crew! Transition has been a success!

Wardroom/Ready room antics may seem bizarre to outsiders, and should often remain unseen to the crew (a bit harder on a sub), but is important to the building of strong happy team. Deployments can be difficult, but they are a lot shorter when you can blow off steam every once in awhile.

Love to hear this! Some of my best memories are in JOPA meetings and our antics.

i was able to visit DS for a Family Day cruise when he was in Japan. I felt incredibly fortunate to get to attend a Hail and Farewell get-together while I was there. This included a "talent show" and election of a new JORG from among about 8 new Ensigns who had recently arrived. Seeing the comradery among the officers, across ranks was very nice. Then I got to see the "all business" relationship as we went underway a few days later.
