Good morning,

I’m currently applying to the USMA and I’m seeking a service connected nomination through my Army JROTC program. However my SAI is retiring this year. Due to COVID-19 issue I’m unable to do anything to increase my SAT and I don’t have an ACT right now. I’m wondering if I should submit the request for my nomination before he retires (June 31st) without the improved test scores or wait until the new SAI comes in next school year. I’m not able to find any information regarding a deadline for this specific nomination. Any help would be appreciated...

Search for “khan academy sat prep”
It’s an awesome FREE resource to boost your scores. Practice taking full length tests under timed conditions. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you can boost your scores and confidence.

I don’t know if that’s your real profile photo / name — you should change to something anonymous, if that’s the case.

I don’t know much about Army ROTC, so I defer to others on this forum regarding your application timing. A key thing to figure out is if you can submit updated SAT (or new ACT) scores after you submit application.

Ditto the advice on changing your avatar if that is you, to protect your privacy. This is an anonymous Internet forum where anyone can see what you post, different from your personal social media. Anonymity allows you to ask questions and participate in discussions so they don’t come home to roost.

Go ahead and get that nomination from your SAI now, you can take the SAT/ACT after all of this is done and the school will look at the updated scores.

Agree it would be a good idea to get the nomination from your SAI now, and even better if he lets you mail it so you can hold onto it and input higher SAT/ACT scores. I think the deadline this year was 01/31.

When your portal opens, follow Class of 2025 instructions and form which may or may not be the same as this year. There is a big section on nominations and all the forms/cover letters were there.

Google it now and find the form - search on "ROTC nomination Form 0702-0061"
SAT/ACT are required, but you don't have to send official scores for the nomination - see page 2.
Note what it says about the ACT writing section required.
I remember this form (Thread in Nominations) because JROTC instructors quickly filled it out but did not make comments (see 2nd sentence) and DD was asking me if it was the 3 digits SAT numbers or the 2 digits.

Yes, I received a JROTC nom. It asks about your character and I think the one who knows you best would be better. I remember putting my ACT scores down, but that is not the biggest factor. It is what they say about you. If you submit it early, they know you will improve. Plus, i think it is there so your SAI is aware of your score.

This a great opportunity to get a nomination. Good luck!

On the Topic, I have a JROTC honor unit, but it's NAVY. Is that acceptable?
The specific answer is at the USMA website, your primary source. For USMA, JROTC units from other services are eligible as nom sources, as long as they are “Honor Units with Distinction.”

If you haven’t yet read every page, dropdown and menu item at the USMA site, most answers are there. SAF posters are a great resource, but this is an anonymous Internet forum. Always verify with your primary source.

Oh, thank you! I must've gotten confused sense it didn't had the ''Junior'' in ROTC Units of Honor Distinction. Won't get that mixed up!
