I am seeking any information or experience regarding the process of joining ANG via Undergraduate pilot training after Kings Point. I am curious as to how to proceed with application and how this process differs from someone joining from AFROTC.
Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to provide.

Sorry for the late reply. I’m a ‘22 grad who just got picked up by an ANG Viper squadron. I’m in the process of transferring from the Navy Reserve to the ANG.

The best resource for the ANG/ AFR hiring process is Bogidope.com. It has a job board of all the hiring squadrons and interview/ application prep articles. You apply to the hiring squadrons directly for a UPT slot. Many allow you to ‘rush’ before the interview. Note that some squadrons don’t advertise their UPT boards so I also recommend cold calling units you’re particularly interested in.

I got my application packet ready on my own. I did my AFOQT and TBAS at an AF base. Most also require letters of recommendation.

Getting a slot was one of the hardest things I’ve done. Even with a PPL and great scores, it took me 2 years to get hired, rushing 6 squadrons. Before turning down AD AF or Navy, be honest with yourself and what you can offer the squadrons. I regretted turning down Navy flight until I finally got hired.

Congratulations AP!
- what is a competitive AFOQT/TBAS score?
- why did you turn down the AD Navy slot?
- when did you get your PPL?
- do you have any other ratings?
- were you only rushing fighter squadrons?
- have you been sailing on your license?
- how many flight hours do you have?
- any idea on when you’ll start UPT?

You have to be pumped!

Air guard is absolutely the best deal on the planet. Glad to hear the transfer from USNR was possible.

Thank you for the reply. I am interested in discussing a little bit further with you if you would be willing. I currently have 95 PCSM, 99 AFOQT but only 22 flight hours. I currently have a Naval Pilot slot on the table that I intend to turn down. My Email is sbycsailor99@gmail.com I appreciate any help you would be willing to give.
