Afternoon, I'm completing my medical survey and to the question asking if I had any allergies, I clicked yes since I'm lactose intolerant. Is being lactose intolerant the same thing as having an allergy, and if so will I have to take a test for possible disqualification?

Don't over think this. If you have not been medically diagnosed, don't document it. Don't lie but don't guess.

From past reports here, once you click a selection, you can’t go back and edit. Wait for any outcomes such as AMI (additional medical information) requests, and follow the process. Or perhaps Mr. Mullen will drop by and invite you to contact him.

The REAL answer = usafacellist2026

1. The medical history form says NOTHING about being diagnosed. It specifically states (do you) "currently have or any history of."
2. Lactose intolerance is NOT a food allergy to milk/dairy products
3. Send me an email: lawrence.e.mullen.civ@mail.mil; provide complete name and last 4 SSN; provide the text of your Parent's posting above to YOUR email. The subject line of the email should be “usafacellist2026 - SAF = Lactose Intolerant.“ Do NOT embed links in your email as I will not be able to view those.:wiggle:

I have a family member who is lactose intolerant. They can ingest dairy, it just makes it very unpleasant for those of us living or working with them. They generally feel better when they avoid dairy, but it isn't a life-changing event if they have milk, cheese, etc.

My father has it … he does fine with using lactaid products when he does have dairy.

I assume I have it because milk bothers me. I don’t care though if I have brownies.

Learn something every day. I always thought it was an allergy

Yeah, that's what's happened with me. My family has learned to never give me dairy products on a road trip.

From what I read lately, lactose intolerance (over like the age of 4 or so) is the normal human condition. It seems most of us can continue to tolerate it more than others by having a genetic variance whereby we continue to produce lactase (the enzyme that allows babies to process lactose).

Anyway, I hope it doesn't get in the OP's way.
