Rescheduled Laptop Issuance for Plebes

The new schedule calls for DoIT to distribute laptops and associated equipment on Monday, July 27th. Throughout the day, Plebes will come to DoIT, receive their equipment, take it back to their rooms where they will unbox the laptop, connect the power and network cords, and the turn on the laptop. It takes one to two hours for the configuration management appliances on the network to download, install, and configure the approved copy of Microsoft Windows. Plebes will also download and install popular software available to them, like Skype, from the self-service site.

So parents and family eager for that first email should not expect to receive correspondence, or Skype sessions, sooner than Monday—probably not before midday, at the earliest.

laptops can't wait

Yeah! can't wait to hear from him as I expect the Sunday phone call to to the girlfriend. :) lonely mom:rolleyes:

Invite girlfriend over

I didn't want our son to have to choose who to call so I invited his girlfriend over to bake and prepare a care package while we wait for the phone call. Then we will just have to share. Hope it all goes well.:shake:
 
Be careful with skype. Not sure if the Plebe's will be able to use it. Last year a plebe got in trouble for using skype....make sure your child checks with their officers.
 
Girlfriends

Thanks for the support. "Our" girlfriend lives too far away to have over but that is a good idea. We will take what we can get and be thankful--letter, short call, call from her after short call, email, well you get the picture:smile:
 
Girlfriends...

On both football recruiting weekend and at the BBQ before InDoc... Coaches AND players both told the plebe candidates... "Got girlfriends at home??? Not anymore" Tongue in cheek??? Coach that was the main recruiting coach of our son told me personally to encourage him to end it.. "it only hurts them once they get here"

I say AMEN!
 
Wow, you guys better hope the DI's don't find out your sons are calling the girlfriend instead of Mom and Dad. They will get in trouble!
 
laptops may be issued monday, but when i went through indoc we were not even allowed to take them out of the box, we stored them in the corner of the room. only when indoc is over will they be allowed to hook up the computer and access email, facebook, etc...
 
They will be issued not tomorrw but next Monday. Indoc will be over by then
 
WiFi?

How do the Mids connect to the internet? Do they have WiFi on campus? in there rooms? or do they connect via ethernet cable in their rooms?
 
I believe it is by ethernet cable. One is issued according to the specs in the logging in book. I would be surprised if it were WiFi in the rooms.
 
No WiFi....it's all hardwired ethernet in the rooms. I can only imagine the connectivity issues if they tried to do wifi with all the thick concrete walls there. Plus the security problems as well.
