Can anyone shed some light on what to do about laptops at USNA? Can you buy one yourself? Does USNA prescribe a laptop for you to buy? Just thinking ahead here.

You will be issued a laptop. Model and specifications change every year.

You're free to bring your own laptop and electronics (contingent on company training policy for 4/C), but you will not be able to connect it to the USNA network (no Internet).
 
MiddyB - You will be issued a laptop at the end of Plebe summer along with numerous other items. External Monitor, Keyboard, etc. are optional. See page 15 in the "Budget Book" via the link below for list of computer related items issued. Also, FYI, all of the clothing and other items listed on the subsequent pages.

Note that the above is 2014 - 2015 Budget Book so expect it to change slightly for 2015-2016. Also, MIDN gross pay as of January 1, 2015 increased to $1,027.20/month (from $1,017 in 2014).

The mids are issued great computers. My youngster hasn't used his personal computer since he got there. As far as the pay increase, I would assume the plebes will still only be netting around $100 per month after all expenses are taken out. I will also have a plebe next year. I look forward to meeting many of you at I-Day. Get ready for an amazing ride.

Yes - net pay is still $100 for 4/c, $200 for 3/c, $300 for 2/c and grips less deductions for 1/c (no held pay).
