Last Nom Interview and Rank Order

Long story short, my DS had two Nom interviews earlier this month and his third in early December. Earlier this week he mistakenly received a TWE. While that was being sorted out, he called the Senator's office to change his order rank thinking he had to move it from first to last because of the rejection. Now that is was a mistake and he should not have received the rejection letter he wants to move the the rank order for the Service Academies back to its original order. How should he explain himself to the person in charge of the Nomination application for the Senator without looking bad? Thanks for any advice.

The truth.
Of course, but the truth could simply be that he wants to change the rank order back to his original with no explanation as to why. My questions was more if he should go into the reasoning or not. It may reflect poorly on him. Either by having the MOC question why he would have mistakenly received the rejection or maybe they will think he is trying to blame the mistake on the Academy which he would not be. He'd be simply stating facts. But, should he even go into a full explanation or leave it as a simple request to switch back and risk looking like he doesn't know what he wants as far as rank order. Is the risk of looking confused better than the risk of a full explanation?

My opinion, which is no better than anybody else's, is to give a full explanation. Simply asking to back to the original rank order without an explanation would make him look indecisive. Again, my opinion. If he gives a full explanation, he is not blaming anybody at all. It was simply circumstances. It is obvious that he asked for the switch in the first place because he wants to serve.

And keep in mind that this could all end up being a plus for your son. This whole situation is showing his passion.

Maybe consider asking the FFR if he could explain the situation in this case since he is aware of the situation a probably knows the people on the Committee? Then your son could make the changes and they would know they were coming. It is nice that in this process there are several advocates on different levels who can be asked questions or provide advice. Just a thought.

If he asks to change it back with no explanation it might look like he is trying to 'game' the NOM process which is never a good thing. The first mistake was overreacting to the TWE, should have waited to get that sorted out, but too late now. What explanation did he previously give when changing the rank order? Seems like the MOC office would have asked why.

He simply told the MOC office that since he submitted his Nomination application a few weeks ago, that he had further communication from Academy liaisons and wanted to change his rank order. Nothing more, nothing less. They were receptive to letting him switch.

He just emailed a full explanation to the MOC office explaining what happened and asked to switch back. Hopefully his request is granted.

If nothing else, this whole situation gets your son noticed repeatedly. Provided he handles the whole thing professionally, which it sounds like he certainly has, this can only benefit him!

Don't over analyze this. Tell the truth. It is perfectly understandable.
Many candidates, including my son, have to change their preferences due to medical disqualifications.
