I have a simple question. When removing the stripes for prior enlisted, does anyone know of a technique to remove the lines/marks on the ABUs and blues? Or, will the Academy/Prep school even mind? I'd prefer not to buy 5 sets of uniforms. So I'd greatly appreciate the advice.

The lines/marks will fade away from your ABUs. You'll need new blues shirts. The prep school should issue them or you can buy your own.

As in, the lines for blues won't fade away (including service coat and jacket)?

Your blues shirts likely will not be serviceable once you remove the stripes , none of mine were. Your lightweight jacket should be serviceable.

You will be issued a new officer's service coat.

Thank you for the info! Looks like I'm headed back to Clothing and Sales or the Airman's Attic.

OP: great question and useful answers for future enlisted personnel entering the Academy/ prep school.

I had the occasion to see more than a few Marines who lost a stripe or two for misconduct. I secretly thought it looked kind of cool and spoke to a "been there, done that" type of persona for these Marines. Of course, it also presented a "walk of shame" type of look that begged questions. In your case, these "scars" speak to the path you have taken to get where you are and should be worn with a sense of accomplishment.

Congratulations on your appointment. Best of luck!

Ha, did you see my facebook status yesterday? I tried ripping the stripes off and now all my blues have holes in them.. So I'm making a trip to the Airman's Attic tomorrow

Haha yeah. That's partially why I asked. I figured the blues would adjust after being washed a few times.
