Reviewing some of these threads reminded me that I have my Dad's "The War Cruise of the USS Saint Paul" book and his US Naval Training center pamphlet from Sampson, New York. I also have my brother's information who was in the Navy during Vietnam on board the USS Tripoli. I and my other brother were Army (Europe), my Uncle stormed the beaches in Normandy, by other Uncle worked at Pentagon. Now my Daughter is on ROTC scholarship for the Army. I was just sharing with her all the information on our family... we literally have representation in every battle since the founding of America. We are also Mayflower Descendants as my 10th Great Grandparents was none other than William Bradford and Alice Carpenter. The great thing is it is all documented and she will be receiving a copy of her American History. I feel very fortunate that my ancestors keep many of these documents to pass down.

I am sure there are many stories like this on the forum and would enjoy it if you would share a snippet on this for us to read.

I'm in awe of your family legacy and your ability to trace it back.

My family is part of the wretched refuse that washed up on the US shores in the early 1900's after being kicked out of Europe. That said, I'm the 2nd generation born here and between my father, me and one of my sons, we've worn a US Navy uniform for about 88 years now.

This describes us well.

You have a great story too. I am also impressed!

Stripes... That was a great movie in the days. I believe they filmed some of it at Ft. Knox.

Here is a picture of Rear Admiral C. Turner Joy while in command of a cruiser Division in the Pacific. No relation to me, but somehow ended up in my Family files. Writing on the back says the following:

Left to Right:
Dukeman (Duke)
Admiral Joy
Pearson (Spider)

ca. 1945

Just thought I would share.
