Letters of rec confusion

For West Point letters of recommendation, do I need to send the prompt to my teachers then they send me a pdf?
Or does West Point send it to them from with the SOE information?
Also, for the CFA, my school's sports director is going to be proctoring it, but could my Volleyball coach write my letter of recommendation?

For the SOEs once you submit the emails of the teachers that you’ve selected, the process is out of your hands. They receive a link to follow with all the information. What you can and should do however is follow up respectfully and consistently with the teachers to let them know that they should have an email and to please check all folders including spam. There will also be a lag between the time that they submit their SOEs and when it is reflected in the portal.

For the CFA follow the instructions precisely. USMA lays it out very clearly. If I remember correctly West Point requires a PE teacher or similar official. I suspect that your coach could write a supplemental letter of recommendation. But unless they are also a math or English teacher that would not replace either SOE

Don't confuse SOE and LOR. Those are different things and have different requirements. For USMA, my DS was asked to provide only email address of the school officials. There's no separate LOR just the evaluation. Maybe in the past LORs were required, they were not for co 2026.

The congressional nomination process required LORs. Some of the required LOR providers were also school officials such as Math and Science teachers. Depends on congressional nom process and what's required.
