Hello,
I am proud to say that I have received an LOA recently. I just have a few questions regarding it.
What exactly does it mean? Should I continue my applications to my other schools just in case (I think I should)? Also, for my nomination, should I include that I was given a LOA? Any help is appreciated! Thank you very much!

Hi Bearsman7... Congrats on the LOA! But....

1) Do NOT stop any applications to other schools. EVEN IF YOU GET AN APPOINTMENT. Too many things can still happen - including (unfortunately) the risk of injury. Always have a back-up plan.

2) Definitely let your MOCs know about your LOA. It may not help - but at least they will know that the Academy wants you.

Good luck!

+1 to continuing full steam ahead. LOA is a good thing, but you aren't in until I Day.

I have been talking to a coach for a while, but there hasn't been anything official, so I would say no.

It means if you complete the conditions of the LOA you will receive an appointment. I would complete all applications you have underway. Never know what could happen medically or with nominations. USNA normally sends LOAs to MOCs, but it’s simple enough to send in a copy or verify with the MOC Cooridnator if they received it. Congrats and good luck.

My DS a 2021 plebe received an LOA and his MOC already knew at the time of his interview. DS definitely felt it helped in his interview. Continue your other apps, you never know what could happen! We had to get through his senior year of 3 varsity sports and there were many close calls, but he made it to I day unscathed!

If you've completed all of your application, even with a nomination, does USNA still give out LOAs?

If you have completed your application, passed CFA , qualified medically, and have a nomination in hand, the LOA would not be necessary. That being said, I can imagine a scenario where Admissions might issue the LOA in order to see how MOC nominations turn out so they can determine which nominating source the Appointment would be charged against.
