I received my LOA this morning directly from King’s Point. I have my nomination and will make sure to maintain my grades. I have recently torn my ACL playing varsity basketball. I am sure, I am not the first to go through I setback like this. I reached out directly to my contact within admissions and explained my situation. In the forum’s opinion, do you think I can make it to King’s Point by I-Day after my ACL surgery on the 30th of January? Any other words of wisdom will be much appreciated.

Sorry to hear of your injury. See pg 37…https://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodi/613003_vol1.PDF?ver=7fhqacc0jGX_R9_1iexudA==#page37

You will also need to update your DODMERB health history, if you have already gone through that process. Once you have had your exam you are required to update with any changes.

There is *most likely* a time passed element to your injury. The only way to know your specific outcome will be to update your records, and follow instructions.

Make sure and have sufficient alternate backup plans. And if it’s a ‘no’ this year, don’t be afraid. Attend your alternate plans and come back next year. Every year a significant make up of the class are reapplicants.

Hang in there!

Does that say I need 12 months of time before I am eligible?
Unfortunately yes. If you have an LOA than you likely will be competitive for the Class of 2029. Start the execution of Plan B. Recovery/Rehab/Grades are your priority if you want to stay the course. For college next year CHEMISTRY/CALCULUS/PHYSICS.

You won't want to put your recovering knee through the stresses of indoctrination and Plebe year. Plebes are required to run and square corners in their dress shoes and sometimes boots - outside - in bad weather and often enforced at the whim of the upperclass. There ARE slips and falls and a recently repaired knee would likely fall victim to injury again.

Just here to say good luck 🍀 with your surgery & recovery! I’m also an ACL warrior (youngest ran into me skiing). They recovery is no joke. Granted I’m a lot older but it was rough. I agree - focus on your recovery & getting ready for class of 2029. I sure this is very devastating news - definitely recognizing the disappointment for you. You will be stronger because of this set back. You got this! (Also, not sure what you are using - cadaver or your own tendon - but if there is a way to look up what DoDMERB requires, maybe spend some time on that. I think most young grasshoppers like you will use their own tendon which I think may be the preference.)
