I got an LOA to go to NAPS a few weeks ago. Does this mean that I don't have a chance to go to USNA this time around, but will most likely go next year? Am I just waiting for more instructions to come in telling me what to do?

I got a nomination from my congressman, but I think my test scores might've been a bit low.

Honestly, tho, I am happy I got into NAPS, it sets me up for next year.

Your last sentence is the key! Congratulations!

It is unlikely you will now be offered a direct appointment to USNA, though there have been anecdotal reports here of a NAPS offer and then a late-stage offer of an appointment. Very rare, and I would think those candidates were right on the knife-edge for decision. Focus on NAPS.

If you go to NAPS and perform at a sat level academically, athletically, militarily, you should be offered an appointment in Class of 2027. Your DoDMERB is good for 2 years. You will have to apply for noms again, but if you don’t get one, USNA can usually solve that.

This might be helpful at link below. It’s a previous version; you’ll be directed to the latest and given other instructions.

You have the golden ticket to the USNA as long as you pass the physical tests, do OK in the military part ( don’t get in major trouble) and as stated above do ok in the school work.

That ok means at least a 2.0 gpa and failing no one subject. Most who leave naps do so because they do not like that sort of military life. They are not flunking out.

The teachers will do whatever it takes to help get you prepared to get that 2.0., as long as you are trying, and prepared for the USNA the following year.

You will request new noms while at prep school so save all your paper work etc but it’s far less stressful than doing it the first time.

I do personally know, first hand, of a Naps accepted appointment turning into an fully qualified offer to USNA. So yes it does happen. But it’s not reported often, so one could surmise that the chances are low.

Congrats. It’s a GREAT offer!!

Going straight to USNA is not complete out but it is rare. Though yes having that attitude for NAPS is all you need. I personally also wanted to go to NAPS rather than straight into the academy and I did. It was the best thing for me and it allowed me to play more of a leadership role to my fellow plebes during the summer.

I am a prior enlisted member, in my 3rd year of service and received an LOA to NAPS. I am very excited about the news but am not sure if I should tell my COC yet or wait untill 15Apr. I’ve learned that nothing is official in the military unless you have hard copy orders. That being said, should I be waiting for a BFE or orders? Not sure if I get notified like everyone else, or if it is routed through my command. If anyone has knowledge about prior Es going to NAPS,or if there is already a forum for enlisted members going to NAPs i could join, I would greatly appreciate any help

If appointed to NAPs do the same "pre I-day" injury concern exist for NAPS or is NAPS more flexible in showing up with an injury that will cause some restrictions for a few months?

NAPS has full time Physical Therapy staff. They deal with these injuries every year. And they deal with students showing up with these injuries.

In another thread I did ask if naps might be an option for you.

If so IMO it’s the best option. Is yours a sports recruit?

thanks, no he is not an actual recruit. he has been in communication with soccer coach and they requested more info and have reached out to his coach.. all this was just a few days before the injury. A best-case scenario would be the soccer coach putting a word in for him and getting NAPS and all the Physical Therapy and prep that goes along with it. He will be pretty far along in his recovery by end of the summer. when does NAPS typically report?

Does your coach think your son is at least good walk on material for USNA?

If so I’d have the coach make a formal plea about a good player to USNA coaches for NAPS for your son. Be proactive.
