LOA

My DD received an LOA yesterday, as well! Very exciting. Our MOC/senators historically have not released noms until at least mid January. Great holiday surprise for her.

What are your super-scored ACT scores?

Congrats! DS is waiting for some news. A medical waiver was granted in November. He has received a Presidential nomination, so far. I wonder if the the receiving that waiver is a good sign.

@1mom , I had to receive 2 waivers that were denied by all 3 other academies (even with an LOA to USCGA) so I would say a waiver is a very good sign. USAFA was the only one who granted a waiver and shortly after came the LOA. Good luck!

That is very comforting info, thank you. My DS received a 2 year waiver before a reassessment is done. We figured that it just does not make any sense to grant such a waiver without intending to offer an appointment. That's the purpose of the waiver.

@1mom The 2 year waiver actually doesn't mean there is a reassessment, it just means that if he has to apply again next year, he will still have the waiver. Once the academy grants a waiver, no extra testing is needed. Hope to see him on IDay!

You may be right. The 2 year had something to do with a separate flight/pilot physical that is required for a 3rd year cadet.
I am curious to know the time gap between when you received your waiver and when you got your LOA.

They will do a pre-commissioning physical during their 2/C (Junior) year. This is a much more thorough physical and could include a flight physical (not sure how it works at USAFA, if all Cadets do a flight physical or just those who want to fly... at USNA it is all Mids). DoDMERB really doesn't matter once you are in the door at a SA, it is just the start of their military medical records for those who are not military dependents or priors.

Good to know, thanks. My DS also applied and is waiting to hear from USNA, USCGA, and USMA.

My DS took the ACT on 12 Dec. The unofficial scores are on-line (pending the writing portion). It was his 1st ACT. His math score (SAT conversion) has increased. So, with the waiver now, it looks more promising for him with the USAFA, we hope. We shall see about the other SAs as well. He was so happy this morning, he emailed his contact officer for each of the perspective SA.

That is awesome! Keep us updated with more news!

My son received an LOA this month. The next day, he received nominations from both a Senator and a Congressman. The day after, he received his official appointment. Awesome Christmas present!
