We received an email from the USAFA admissions this morning followed by LOA in portal. Did not receive LOI last week so this is a pleasant surprise! Anyone else got notified of LOAs?

-Edit to include language from the letter-

Congratulations! You have been approved for admission to the United States Air Force Academy Class of 2029. While you have been approved for admission, you must receive an appointment to join the Class of 2029.

This Letter of Assurance assures you of an appointment conditional upon you securing a nomination and satisfactorily completing any remaining admissions requirements.

An appointment requires a nomination from a valid nomination source. We will inform your Representative and Senators of our desire to appoint you to the Air Force Academy; however, if you have not already done so, apply for a nomination from all of your eligible nominating sources. This includes your Representative, Senators, and any military-affiliated nomination sources for which you are eligible. Information on how to apply for nominations can be found in your "Instructions to Candidates" booklet posted on your portal.

Please be aware that your appointment will also be conditional on the satisfactory completion of any other outstanding admissions requirements (medical clearance, successful candidate fitness assessment, submitted college/prep school transcripts, etc.).

If you have any questions concerning your status, please call your admissions team in the Air Force Academy Office of Admissions at 800-443-9266. I wish you success throughout the remainder of this academic year and hope to see you when the Class of 2029 enters in June.

LOIs encourage applicants to complete applications. It is an effective candidate engagement tool.

Not everyone gets one.

Candidates can and do receive appointments without one.

An LOI is not a required precursor to an LOA, thought it may seem a logical conclusion when a candidate receives both. Correlation is not necessarily causation.

Most appointees do not receive an LOA.

USAFA, can give LOIs and LOAs for whatever reason and at any time they wish.

Sorry guys, I don’t know how my post somehow re-posted itself.. very odd.

My DS's application originally has a final date of Nov 15th, he recieved a LOI on a few weeks before but not date is showing as Nov 30th even though he submitted everything. Anyone else experience this?

How long after you finished your application did you receive the letter?

Is it possible to get an LOA if everything is completed, even nomination?
Yes, DS1 did, but it was a Presidential Nomination and it was before the Congressional was awarded. There are no rules governing LOAs, that are at the complete and total discretion of admissions. They are few and far between.

I asked a similar question as I have a House Rep and Presidential nomination and my DoDMERB complete for both USAFA and USNA. I also have a "passing CFA" on the USNA site, "complete" on the USAFA site. I don't have any correspondence from either academy (no LOA, no LOI, no Appointment). There are several posts about LOAs on the forum. They all say similar things: 1) there is no known formula to getting the LOA; 2) they could come at any time; 3) they could be with, or without conditions (without condition meaning an appointment is coming, be patient); and 4) they're like unicorns, etc.

Bottom line is the answer I got is the LOA (or appointment) could come immediately, in early 2025, or not at all. We'll just have to be patient at this point.

You can read the thread by viewing my posts if you want to understand what those who know the processes best said about LOAs vs Appointments. Good luck.
