My DD received hers today. Very happy day at our house!!
My son received his in September last year. He was in the first group. Less than 50 went out at that time we were told.

That’s a large number, 20% of incoming. Very generous. Those are Academy’s must have candidates. As good as Early Action admits if they have completed Apps by EA deadline.
It's usually for what the academy view as highly desirable candidates. My understanding is that the AIM honor graduates are also considered for LOAs. You don't apply for an LOA.How do you receive an LOA? Is it by submittal of application or based on AIM honor graduate? Or possibly both?
If my son hadn't won honor graduate at AIM I would never even have considered it. However I have been advised from numerous reliable sources that it is equivalent to an LOA and he should receive one in due course as long as his situation doesn't change dramatically. The focus should not be on a letter of assurance (LOA). They are very few. Some years they have been as few as five (5), which make them fewer than at any Service Academy.
The appointment is the goal. Think of that only.
