What is the typical dress code for a local admissions event? What have others done in the past? Is this a fairly casual event or should my DS wear a shirt and tie? Thanks!

I went to one a few months ago, I just wore a nice polo-type shirt and khakis, with matching color belt and shoes. That is what a lot of the people there wore, but it could be different from place to place.

I recommend to dress business attire. The more professional your DS looks, the better impression he will make to the RC or any other representatives present. Typically, there are not a lot of opportunities to meet these people face to face, and this is a great chance to stand out and introduce himself!

I agree, this is what we saw at previous events---nice shirt and pressed khakis.

It is better to be overdressed than to be underdressed. You have one chance to make a first impression. They better you look, the more serious you appear.

It depends on your definition of the event. If it is a college night at the high school, then the dress would be a little more relaxed. If it is truly an admission's event where the MOC or Admission's representatives are present, suit and tie or dress would be most appropriate. It is kind of like an interview, having a nice suit will not get you a job, but showing up in ripped jeans and flip flops would definitely keep you from getting it.

My DS wore a suit & tie, however there were others that did not at the college. The RC walked over and introduced himself to my DS and the only time my DS got a chance to meet him face to face. And my DS did get an appointment to USMA. So I guess my point is, it want hurt to be the only one there in a suit and maybe no tie.

My son wore khakis, navy blazer, tie and boat shoes. I feel like it's a show of respect.

My DD wore a suit. She was the best dressed there and she was definitely noticed.

They dont care what you wear. If your stats are high they will accept you. The kid who won my district showed up in gym clothes and still got it.

My DS wore a suit to his. However, we saw varying degrees of dress. Personally, it's my belief you only get one chance to make a first impression. Why not look your best?
