Long Waiver Waits

Thank you!!
I just replied, but it didn't go directly under your question.

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. Personally, I would accept the offer for the appt a month away. I know it's late but if your DS is truly passionate and about ROTC, it would be the best choice. If I remember correctly, my local ROTC representative told me I could accept the AFROTC Type 1 scholarship but I would need the waiver by the time the first semester begins for the scholarship money to be given. This gives a much more generous time frame than the SAs but as you said, the SAs seem to be taking their sweet time deciding on waivers so that's still up in the air.

In my case, a provider found an ophthalmologist in Columbus for me this week. So finally, after they almost hit the 30-day deadline, I got an appt scheduled in two weeks so good news for me there. If there's hope for me there's certainly hope for your DS. I wish both of you the best.
So we decided to make an appt with private Drs for next week as well as plan on booking DODMETS providers that are over a month out to address my DS's remedials. This private Drs are really just to cover if or when the SAs ask for remedials. Will still do DODMETS providers when they actually find one. Crossing fingers and putting hands together that all of it works out and that timing does mess it up for DS.🤞🙏

Can waivers go out before USAFA looks at the applicant list? I feel like I worded that poorly, but I'm trying to convey that my state (OH) has only had 3 appointments as reported on this forum. All of them were in 2022 so I'm guessing that "the big wave" should be coming for my state soon. Since I've been medically DQ'd, do they look at my file when they get to the "wave" or could they have already looked and set mine aside to go on to the fully qualified applicants in "the big wave"?

Wow. There is a lot going on in this post, and a lot of false assumptions.

Simply because there were three appointments posted last year and none this year means nothing. With that small of a number, there is no way to determine a trend or whether your file has been boarded, yet.

Appointments are not granted state by state, so there is no “wave” for a state. There are waves of appointments, but nothing relative to any one state.

The Academy will request a waiver for your DQ if they determine that you are a competitive candidate with a chance for an appointment. That will not happen until they review your file. If they’ve requested a waiver, then you have been reviewed.

At this point, all I can do is advise you to be patient and wait for word from USAFA. There are many appointments yet to come.

The data set here is so small, there is no way to accurately use it as a reliable basis for projection. It is quite possible there are several appointees from OH, starting from last fall, who have Presidential or service-connected noms, to more recent appointments using elected official noms - but none of them have self-reported here. Typically, by the end of each cycle, only about 10-15% of the DoD SAs appointees find this forum and choose to post.

Your file has likely been looked at by now. Since medical reviews can go into the late spring, Admissions gets on with reviewing applications and makes decisions when they feel they can and when it’s time.

Your job: focus on what you can control, tend alternate plans, go PT to bleed off stress and stop the brain hamsters in your mind trying to figure stuff out.
