Hi y'all,

I'm currently a freshman AROTC cadet at a top university in the nation. I've had a successful year with a high GPA and acft score. However, my cadre have a general disregard for the academic requirements of cadets. I'm considering switching to AFROTC as I have found their system to be far more accommodating. Am I being overdramatic? My entire family has gone Army and I'm also finding myself to be tired of the same traditions and lingo that I've heard of since I was a kid. The idea of trying something new is appealing, but it's honestly quite daunting making the move.

Any advice is welcome.

I recommend talking with the AFROTC cadre at your school as well as current cadets to get a better understanding of what is expected

So you are a freshman in your first year of college at a “top university” where you are doing well academically ,

but you want to make a switch in rotc because you are sure the Army ROTC cadre have a “general disregard for the academic requirements of cadets” and you think the AFROTC will be “ far more accommodating”

Daunting is flying into a hot LZ. , deciding on a major or a commissioning source is just a normal part of life.

Overly dramatic , a needed life change, or just freshman angst ?

Are you on scholarship and need to keep it to attend the uni you’re at? AROTC is more secure in that regard. What is your major? AFROTC is more confining in that regard. What do you hope to do in the military? Is Army or AF a better fit? As poster said above, talk to the AFROTC cadre and cadets to get the intel you might be looking for.

what do you mean academic disregard?
I am not sure what the OP meant. But a very serious charge if true.

But it “sounded “ to me like the OP was suggesting that AROTC was to difficult with too much of a time commitment with all the military stuff and that made academics harder and they thought AFROTC would be easier. Or more accommodating.

That is 100% a guess as to what they actually meant.
