Class of 2026 Memo regarding footwear gives these 2 options for low quarters:

1. Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support (DLATS) Men’s Military Black Leather Oxford Dress Shoe, non-shiny
2. Men’s Bates Lites Black Leather Oxford, non-shiny

Is one choice better than the other? Thanks.

Also have the same question. I have heard that the Bates are better, but not for any specific reason that I recall.

We bought the Bates for DD 2025. She was intent on breaking in her boots, but she was happy wearing new Bates low quarters. They were comfortable and have served her well.

Bates. Hold up well, more comfortable.
Interesting that you say that. Reading reviews of purchases in the last couple of years it looks like the quality of the product has gone downhill. Thank you.

I promise it's not something to sweat too much (coming from someone who fretted about boots and low-q's excessively). Your feet will hurt regardless. Get some nice insoles.

We have 2 pairs of Bates up for grabs- men’s 11 and 10.5. DS ended up going with 10s. They run big.

And in the mayhem of preparing for beast it’s easy to forget to return the ones that don’t fit.

PM me if anyone wants these shoes

where did you find the 2026 letter? Do you get that once you accept? My DS is undecided still, but was curious.

It's online, but I would assume you can only order if accepted.

Yes, but the letter also said you can purchase in-person from the base exchanges; a permit letter was provided by USMA for one-time purchase to one pair of boots, one pair low quarters. DS needs to bring the permit plus the USMA acceptance letter when he visits the base store to be fitted. There's instructions on what to do, really helps avoid confusion and consequent mistakes.
