I had a few questions I wanted to ask about the dress shoe fit. I recently ordered the recommended boots and low quarters. The boots fit great but the low quarters have a bit of heel slip in the back with normal socks on (they move up about an inch). Will you wear them with thin dress socks or socks more similar to the medium weight boot. Other than the heel slip they fit well. I wanted to know if this was normal and something that would go away when I break in the shoes or if I should return them for a half a size down. I hardly ever wear dress shoes so I am not sure exactly how they should fit.

That is too much movement in my opinion. You want a good fit, followed by your efforts to 'break the shoe in' so that it 'walks' comfortably. Blisters and marching (and double timing) do not mix well so it is worth the effort to find a good fitting low quarter. We used to wet shoes and then 'walk' them dry to break-in the leather shoes we had. I'm sure some others will share their experiences too.

My advice would be to get dress shoes that have zero slip. I thought the heel slip was fine when I got my low quarters, but on R day I got nasty blisters because the back of the low quarters rubber against the heel every time I took a step. Try another brand if the sizing doesn’t work for your feet.

And once you do get your low quarters that fit well, try to walk around the house fast paced carrying a fairly heavy bag in one hand. That’ll help simulate what it’ll feel like on R day.

I wear bates and one thing I've always done since dress socks tend to be thin is double sock. I've found it helps me prevent blisters because they are pretty slippery in the back.

My Plebe son wears thick black athletic socks, rather than thinner dress socks, in his low quarters. Follow all the advice about breaking in shoes, boots and even running shoes. AND still bring a lot of blister bandages. They're small, lightweight and helpful to others, even if you don't end up using them.
Can't emphasize enough the use of 2 gallon, and 3 gallon heavy duty ziplock bags for everything. Facilitates quick transfer from your bag, (which should not have several separate compartments), to issued bag. This past Beast was pretty much monsoon conditions, and his stuff stayed dry while in the ziplocks.

Thank you to everyone who responded! I decided to follow your advice and return them and get a half a size smaller. Since they allow returns I can go with even smaller if needed but a 10 should good (hopefully). Also thanks for the other tips like using zip lock bags.

A little bit of heel slip is fine, especially when breaking in and having them conform to your feet, but 1 inch is probably too much. Def recommend double socking thin ones when starting out or wearing thick socks. low quarters can have a tendency to wear out your socks around your ankle/heel. For the love of god, use foot powder in the low quarters. Just sprinkle some in the shoe itself and shake it around. Will help with absorbing the moisture and preventing any smell from developing since low quarters arent breathable. I've had roommates who never did this and you could smell their low quarters from across the barracks room
