Luggage/grad gift for plebes-to-be

The above suggestions are great -- other ideas that I don't think were mentioned include: a nice pillow -that you will give them later (do not bring it on I day!), mattress topper (again deliver later), a small booklight....
We got our current second class a watch. The gift cards to all eating places in DTA are very,very appreciated. Also, I am pretty sure he brought his own running shoes.
 
I have a couple of watch winders. They are mezmerizing to watch.
 
This is interesting talk about watches... but are you permitted to wear a watch during plebe summer, or only after in the academic year?

Back to OP, my DS has a slightly older version of the small Patagonia Black Hole Duffle. He loves it! While he uses his Seabag ALOT, this is his go to for most small trips. Consider a small bag like this for IDay to hold his ziplock, PPW, any weekend liberty or trip to sponsor house. Can’t go wrong. The watch game is pretty strong at USNA but it’s my experience that the watch and function is pretty personal. Also, a good pair of sunglasses is a great gift!

For what it’s worth, a mattress topper is something your mid might enjoy initially. I have heard that the number of times mids move rooms during a year greatly diminishes that love factor. The storage could be difficult if you aren’t local. My college DDs love the mattress topper but it’s a difficult piece of personal property on the Yard.
