Hello! I’m a teacher at a public school in Maryland and almost every year we have a student attend a service academy— West Point more than Annapolis despite the geographic proximity. I circulate the addresses of our service academy bound students to their teachers so they’ll get encouragement from their “old HS.” This year we have a grad going to West Point, and he said to not use his first name in the address until after the cadet basic training is finished. Checking past emails, in prior years the format was “New Cadet John Doe” not “New Cadet Doe.” Our grad has a pretty common last name so I was hoping to confirm the “no first name on mail” format. Thank you!

On the other hand . . . our student was smart enough to get admitted, so I shouldn't second guess the way he reported his address for the summer. I'll just assume West Point has switched it up in recent years. Good luck to other members of the USMA class of '27 (and your parents), there are many teachers across the country rooting for you to succeed.

This is such a kind gesture! My son is West Point bound as well, Class of 2027. The instructions stated to use first name if the last name common.

You will need the Cadet Candidates' post office box number.
So please, reach out to his or her mother who will have all of the address information.

Thanks for the replies and the information! I am glad to say that I do have the PO Box. I have already popped a card in the mail so that hopefully our alum will get it early on when the new cadets first begin to receive mail.
